Neptune in Scorpio

The planet Neptune was in the sign of Scorpio from 1955 to 1970. It's important to note that Neptune takes about 164 years to make a complete cycle, spending about thirteen years in each sign, and therefore the interpretation applies to a generation rather than the individual. For a more individual interpretation you need to look at the house position of Neptune in your chart. Neptune was last in Scorpio throughout the full decade of the 1960's. These individuals were born into a time where the search for harmony and bliss, as indicated by Neptune's position, were manifest by people losing themselves in drugs, music and sex. Scorpio is the sign that rules over the area of sex. The ideals of free love and drug experimentation and music festivals were seen as a panacea for the youth of the 1960's. Generally it is acknowledged that the early idealism of this period ended towards 1970, as Neptune left Scorpio, where the ramifications of multiple partners, sexual diseases and hard drugs came back to leave many to seek an alternative way of living with the coming decade. The planet Neptune seeks a higher ideal and harmony but many of the failings of the decade can be attributed to people seeking this harmony totally for themselves. Most of the experiments with drugs and multiple partners although preached in the name of love were actually an excuse for self gratification. Many of those born with Neptune in Scorpio will carry these addictive tendencies towards sex and escapism though drugs and music. Only with age, when they elevate these traits to a concern that takes into account other peoples welfare, will this planetary combination be seen in its full perfection.
